Diploma Kejuruteraan Elektrik direka bentuk untuk meliputi disiplin ilmu kejuruteraan elektrik semasa, dengan pengkhususan tambahan elektronik yang digunakan dalam bidang kejuruteraan elektrik. Asas elektronik yang meliputi bidang kuasa, kawalan, instrumentasi dan komputer memberikan fleksibiliti kepada para graduan, sambil menekankan bidang pengkhususan.
Graduan ini dijangka akan berkhidmat dalam bidang kejuruteraan elektrik. Penggunaan peralatan elektrik dan elektronik hari ini memerlukan juruteknik yang mahir dan terlatih yang diperlukan untuk cabaran baharu ini. Diploma Kejuruteraan Elektrik di Politeknik Kementerian Pendidikan Malaysia melengkapkan graduannya dengan kemahiran teknikal yang diiktiraf.
